Study Recommendations

The following seven recommendations were developed based on the findings of the study. Our sources of data include participants’ kuwentos as well as their artworks. This recommendation is a living document and offers an opportunity for public conversation.

1. Give attention to staff diversity and development.

2. Recognition of the religiousity of queer and trans youth and the diversity of Catholic communities.

3. Support Queer and Trans Catholic Educators.

4. Intentionally include queer and critical education in the curriculum.

5. Listen, make room for self-expression, and commit to respectful relationships.

6. Recognize the need for comprehensive and inclusive sexual health education and internet safety.

7. Provide anti-racist, anti-oppressive, culturally responsive and relevant mental health and wellness supports.
